Keeping your workplace clean during COVID19

Keeping your workplace clean during COVID19Keeping your business safe and secure for employees and operating in a healthy environment all boils down to having good, and we mean really good, commercial cleaning services in place.

Today, as well as complying with current Health and Safety guidelines and regulations, commercial offices now have new government guidelines to follow in the form of COVID19.

It has never been so important to disinfect facilities during the COVID pandemic.  Cleaning and disinfecting all surfaces and touch points within commercial premises and office environments regularly.

With the rate of coronavirus transmitting exponentially, we need to play our part in reducing the risk of infection and keeping ourselves and our employees safe.

Industrial cleaning during a pandemic

Disinfectant is your best friend – regularly touched surfaces must be wiped down ideally twice a day, at the beginning and the end.  Of course, frequency should be dictated depending on people’s usage and volume, which will vary for different organisations.  Bathrooms and communal areas are the main areas cleaning teams should be focused on.

Keep it clean – make sure to discard items and even pieces of furniture that aren’t absolutely necessary.  Look to incorporate a clear desk policy and ultimately opt for a minimalistic approach and feel throughout your office.  This helps to make cleaning easier, especially as the frequency of cleaning is increased.

Use cleaning detergents and bleach on all touchpoints, such as light switches, door handles, work surfaces, remote controls, stair rails, etc.

Communal kitchens should always remain clean regardless; however, we would encourage all workplaces to take extra precautions when people are handling food.  Hand washing remains vital, crockery and kitchen utensils should not be shared, and all surfaces and large kitchen equipment should be cleaned thoroughly and often (ideally after every use).

Bathrooms require suitable handwashing facilities, running water, soap, and paper towels; if you use cloth towels, these need to be laundered regularly.  Bathroom areas should also be cleaned daily as part of your commercial cleaning company’s cleaning schedule with you.

General waste and office rubbish can be disposed of in the usual manner and does not have to be disposed of separately.

Risk assessments should be carried out to assess any areas of concern or areas you would like your cleaning teams to focus on.  Risk assessments in this capacity allow everyone to know what is happening, to identify the risks, and then put the best strategies and industrial cleaning procedures in place to mitigate them.

Commercial Cleaning

When carrying out any cleaning, you should look to wear disposable gloves and use soap and water first and then disinfectant.  This is because soap and water reduce dirt, germs, and impurities, whereas disinfecting surfaces help kill germs.

When disinfecting facilities, follow the instructions on the cleaning products label as each cleaning product can be different.  You should also ensure rooms are well ventilated and use no more than the recommended amount.

It’s important to avoid mixing cleaning chemicals, label all solutions, and store them in a safe place, out of the reach of children.

If professional cleaning products are not available, diluted household bleach is more than adequate and can provide you with an effective disinfection product for up to 24 hours.

On soft surfaces, make sure to use appropriate cleaners with soap and water and wash any items that can be laundered regularly.

When it comes to computers, keyboards, remote controls, etc., consider using wipe-able covers and alcohol-based wipes or sprays containing at least 70% alcohol!

However, and most importantly, we must remember to communicate with staff.  Place appropriate signage clearly and in the right areas, inform teams of their responsibilities around the office, and what you need them to do to help keep themselves and others safe.
